CENTERS OF EXCELLENCE
The Heart Institute

St. Joseph Medical Center became the first community hospital in the Baltimore area to perform open heart surgery in 1982, and its history of innovation in heart care continues today in our Heart Institute. Patients from all over Maryland and neighboring states come to St. Joseph to receive treatment.

The Orthopaedic Institute

If pain stops you from doing what you love, whether it’s hitting the golf ball, jogging or taking a simple stroll, the physicians and specialists of the Orthopaedic Institute at St. Joseph know that’s no way to live your life.

More than 25,000 patients come to St. Joseph annually to see our orthopaedic specialists – travelling from across the country and around the world. They come for state-of-the-art care, surgical advancements, and the latest clinical trials.

The Orthopaedic Institute specializes in treating arthritis, joint and back pain and other debilitating orthopaedic conditions. In fact, we perform more joint replacement surgeries than any other hospital in Maryland. More experience means better outcomes. That’s why St. Joseph has been rated one of the best hospitals in the country by U.S. News & World Report and Money magazine.

Designed to maximize patient comfort, convenience, and peace of mind, the institute brings all specialists in their treatment together in one location, where patients can see their providers in a single visit. This radically alters and improves the usual patient experience of multiple appointments over many anxious weeks. Everyone, from medical oncologists and surgeons, to radiologists, gastroenterologists, nurse navigators, social workers, geneticists, dieticians, pharmacists, and cancer education professionals is involved in tailoring the best treatment plan for you.

This centralized facility eliminates barriers to scheduling and access, which allows patients to focus their energy on getting well and surviving their cancer. We believe in treating the whole person -- not just the disease -- through an individualized plan focused on mind, body and spirit.
