Clinical Nutrition Services
Registered dietitians provide clinical nutrition services for inpatients and outpatients. Interdisciplinary-approved nutrition standards of care for most inpatients include screening for nutrition risk, nutrition assessment for patients at risk, nutrition consultation and education. Physicians are encouraged to call a clinical dietitian for any the following reasons:
- When a diet order is in question.
- For an assessment of a patient’s nutrition status.
- For a determination of required nutrient intakes for a patient or to determine the nutrient content of specific foods.
- For enteral (tube) feeding consults, or an assessment of parenteral feedings or transitional feedings.
- For individualized nutrition and diet education to help control obesity, heart disease, diabetes, etc. with an emphasis on the personalized approach. Please note: For maximum benefit, nutrition education is recommended in the outpatient setting.
- For information on classes and diabetic education.
- For information on any other desired nutrition services.
