The Medical Staff Office supports all activities of the St. Joseph Medical Center Medical Staff. The staff assists physicians to answer questions about bylaws, rules and regulations, staff advancement, appointment, reappointment, committee responsibilities and meetings. It is important that staff members inform the Medical Staff Office of changes in office-home address and telephone numbers.
Critical Care House Physicians
The Critical Care house physicians will evaluate and communicate with the attending physician on all emergency patients referred to the M/S ICU areas by the emergency physician group. A brief history and physical examination will be performed and recorded in the patient's chart. Admission orders and studies will be written. Admissions will be arranged only after consultation with the attending physician.
Critical Care house physicians covering the M/S ICU are available to communicate with the attending physician at all times regarding significant changes in a patient's condition. These physicians are board certified in Internal Medicine and have academic critical care experience.
The Critical Care house physician will respond to Code Blue or other emergency calls on the ground floor of the medical center and will conduct the Code Blue procedures until or unless relieved of this duty by another physician. These medical center physicians will be prepared to perform or assist in the insertion of: temporary pacemaker catheters, Swan-Ganz catheters, hyperalimentation catheters or to intubate patients or manage arrhythmia.
Hospitalist Physician Service (HPS)
The Hospitalist Physician Service is provided for those attending physicians who choose to use this service to admit their patient unless determined otherwise by the patient's insurance carrier. The hospitalist is the physician of record for that patient admission. The hospitalist remains in close contact with the primary care physician regarding the patient and plan of care, communicating any progress or change. Once discharged from the medical center, each patient's care will be resumed by his/her primary care physician.
